โ๏ธ Initial setup
The first time the owner of a workshop signs in to BolloPrint they don't see the dashboard: they see a full-screen initial setup assistant, with the workshop's logo and colours, that walks them through nine steps until the workshop is ready. It takes about fifteen minutes.
Until the owner finishes it, anyone else on the team who signs in sees a waiting screen ("Your workshop is still being prepared") with a button to check again.
Everything you set in the assistant can be changed later in Settings. And any step can be skipped: BolloPrint works with the default values. The assistant exists so you know these settings are there and get them right once.
Before you start
It helps to have at hand:
- What you pay per kilo for your usual spools and resins.
- The workshop's monthly expenses: rent, electricity, software, what the machines cost.
- The logo, if your plan allows branding (from Pro up).
- Your team's email addresses, to invite them from the assistant.
On every step, on the right (or folded under the form on mobile) there is a "Why it matters" box and a list of what each thing is for, and at the bottom a link to the page of this guide that explains it in depth, in your language.
Better from a computer. Some steps, such as costs, are long and have tables. It works the same on a phone, but it is more comfortable on a big screen. You can start on one and continue on the other: the assistant resumes at the step where you left it.

| 9 | All set | Where the documentation is, the Discord community and your first steps | โ |
1. Your workshop
The language is the workshop's: invitations, and emails to users who haven't picked another one, go out in it; each person on your team picks their own in their profile. The time zone decides when each month starts and ends in Financial. The currency is the one orders, quotes and expenses are stored in.
Every order and expense is stored with the currency of the moment and we do not convert. Change it now if it isn't yours; afterwards it only affects new records.
2. Orders and quotes
- Default deadline of an order: every new order is created with a due date = today + N days. You can adjust it on each order.
- Validity of a quote: printed on the PDF as "Valid until". An expired quote is a warning, not a block.
- Default margin and traffic light: the margin turns the cost of a piece into its suggested selling price; the traffic light colours each variant by the real margin you give it, so you can see at a glance where you are selling cheap.
3. Material cost
What you pay per kilo for each type of material. Together with the weight returned by the sliced file, this is what gives the material cost of each piece. Add the finishing surcharges (processed, painted) and the per-piece extras (packaging, screws, inserts, magnets, labour), stating whether they are charged per unit or per build plate. All of this is explained in depth in "Costs".
On mobile, each material family appears folded; tap it to open it.
4. Farm expenses
These are the same three tabs as in Settings โ Costs โ Hourly cost, with the example underneath so you see how the cost of a piece changes with what you enter. The button at the bottom takes you from one tab to the next ("Next: Base cost", "Next: Total cost") and only from the last one does it move on to the next step:
- Printing hours: printers ร hours per day ร days per month. This is the divisor the monthly expenses are spread over; count only the hours the machines are printing.
- Base cost: your fixed costs, by type (fixed cost, printer, software, electricity, payroll), each with its mode (monthly, amortisation in years, per hour, per consumptionโฆ). A monthly amount describes the whole farm; a per-hour one describes one machine: don't put the same expense in both places.
- Total cost: the percentage surcharges on top of the base cost (maintenance, failures, contingencies). They are added together, not chained.
Without these expenses the "Printing" line of the example comes out near zero and the suggested price of each piece ends up below what it costs you.
5. Your brand
Workshop name, logo, login screen texts and the four seed colours. They apply to the whole app, the login, the emails to your customers and the quote PDF. Available from the Pro plan: on Hobby the assistant skips this step. It still shows in the welcome list, greyed out with a padlock, as Not included in your plan, and it does not count in the progress bar.
6. Your team
Rows of email + role (admin, worker or read-only). If you fill in any email, the button says "Send invitations and continue" and sends them; if not, just "Continue". Each person receives an email with their link and gets in with the role you gave them. Invitations expire after 7 days. On the Hobby plan, which includes a single user, the assistant skips this step too and marks it the same way in the welcome list. If you change plan halfway through the assistant, leave and enter again to see the new steps.
7. Printers, accounts and sales
Three things that aren't set up in fifteen minutes, with the why of each:
- Connect your printers, through the Bambu Lab cloud or over the local network with the agent โ "Connect printers".
- Keep the accounts in Financial โ Expenses โ "Financial". Mind the difference: expenses versus income is accounting (what you have left); costs versus sale price is product (what you earn on each piece). A piece's price is set by the farm expenses from step 4, not by what you record in Financial.
- Sell outside by connecting your marketplaces from Settings โ Extensions โ Marketplaces โ "Marketplaces". Today we only connect to Etsy; we will be adding other marketplaces.
8. Bring your data
If you come from another tool, from spreadsheets or from a notebook, we help you load customers, catalogue, orders and inventory. What is included depends on your plan:
| Plan | What's included | How it works |
|---|---|---|
| Hobby | No assistance | You bring the data. Ask us for help on Discord and we'll give you a hand. |
| Pro | Assisted migration | We guide you step by step: what to export, in which format and how to load it. |
| Max | We do it for you | You send us your files and we hand your workshop back loaded. |
| Business | We do it for you | Same as Max, with a review session at the end. |
Start whenever you like by writing to info@bolloprint.com or opening a Migration case on Discord (see "Support via Discord").
9. All set
We tell you where this guide is (and that inside the app you have it in the user menu โ Help), we invite you to the Discord community โ where we publish the announcements and news of each release and where support cases are opened in your language โ and we sum up your first steps: create your customers, upload your designs, create your orders and get ready to receive orders. Pressing "Go to BolloPrint" takes you to the dashboard. If the connection with Discord isn't available at that moment, its button appears disabled.
Frequently asked questions
Can I go through the assistant again? Not from the workshop. If you want to go through it again, ask support: we can reset it and you will see it again the next time you sign in, with all your settings already filled in.
I skipped a step, is that a problem? No. On the last screen you'll see what you skipped, and you have it in Settings whenever you want.
I closed the browser halfway through. The assistant resumes at the step where you left it. What you had saved up to the previous step is saved; the step you had half done is lost.
I'm a worker and I see "Your workshop is still being prepared". The owner hasn't finished the assistant yet. It's usually a matter of minutes: press "Check again" once they are done.
